The moment Medium started supporting its own, newly created, publications instead of the ones that helped Medium become what it is, I could see this coming. HackerNoon, Signal vs Noise, Thrive Global, etc. all left…

The other thing that surprised me was when Medium started supporting traditional mainstream publications. I couldn’t believe when the recommended author of the month was The New York Times…

I haven’t seen my stats drop that much, but I think that the platform is turning into something different. That we either play with the (latest) Medium rule or we lose the game.

I prefer to stick to doing what I like — and most of my readers like too — than continually adapting to a model that seems to have lost its original purpose. Not everything that’s good for the business is good for the readers, writers, and community.
